Since 2000, oil production has declined every year, but the first quarter of 2014 saw an increase. The total production of oil amounted to 22 million Sm 3 oil equivalents (o.e.) ; an increase of 5.8 per cent or 1.2 million Sm 3 o.e. A total of 68 oil fields were in production, one of which started production in the first quarter. The Troll, Ekofisk and Snorre oil fields had the highest production.

Increased gas production

In the first quarter of 2014, the gas production amounted to 29.5 million Sm 3 o.e. This is an increase of 0.5 million Sm 3 o.e. or 1.7 per cent. The production of gas made up about 51 per cent of the total petroleum production . A total of 61 fields produced gas in the first quarter of 2014.
