The increase in the estimate for the year 2000 from the last quarter is due to higher investments in expolration activities.

This is NOK 0.2 billion lower than the corresponding estimate for 1999, but an increase of NOK 3.4 billion from the previous survey. The recovery of the oil price is most likely the reason for the increase in the companies` budgets for exploration activity in 2000.

Estimates for 1999

Total investments in oil and gas extraction and pipeline transport for 1999 are now estimated at NOK 68.4 billion. This is a NOK 4.5 billion downward adjustment from the survey made last quarter and a NOK 9.0 billion decrease from the corresponding estimate for 1999. The downward adjustment from the previous survey is due to a deacrease of investments in field developments.

Investments in field developments for 1999 are now estimated at NOK 34.1 billion. This a downward adjustment of NOK 4.8 billion from the previous survey. A downward revision of the reported cost at the Åsgard field explains most of this.

Investments in fields on stream and exploration activities are now estimated at NOK 20.0 and 5.2 billion respectively only minor changes from the previous survey.
