More diesel and less gasoline
Auto diesel accounted for 40 per cent of total sales of petroleum products in 2013 and sales ended at 3.7 billion litres. From 2009 to 2012, the total sales of diesel increased by 538 million litres. From 2012 to 2013 the increase was 122 million litres or 3.4 per cent. One litre of diesel on average cost NOK 13.16 in 2013. This is NOK 0.06 less than in 2012 when the average price was NOK 13.22, according to figures from the monthly sales of petroleum products from Statistics Norway.
Sales of gasoline amounted to about 1.3 billion litres in 2013, which is a decrease of 88 million litres or 6.3 per cent from 2012. In 2013, sales of motor gasoline accounted for about 14 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products. The average price for one litre of 95 octane unleaded gasoline fell by NOK 0.03 from 2012 to 2013 when the price was NOK 14.72.
Sales of diesel and gasoline combined increased by 0.7 per cent or 34 million litres from 2012 to 2013, and made up about 53 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products in 2013.
Light heating oils
Sales of light heating oils has decreased in recent years and ended at about 342 million litres in 2013. For 2010, 2011 and 2012, sales amounted to 552, 421 and 357 million litres respectively. Relatively mild winters since 2010 and a stronger focus on alternative sources for use in heating may have contributed to the reduction.
Jet kerosene and marine gas oil and diesel
Sales of jet kerosene have seen a steady increase over the last five years. Sales ended at about 1.1 billion litres in 2013. This is an increase of 53 million litres or 5 per cent compared to 2012. Sales of jet kerosene accounted for 12 per cent of total sales of petroleum products in 2013.
Marine gas oil accounted for about 19 per cent of the total sales of petroleum products and sales amounted to 1.7 billion litres in 2013. This is 152 million litres less than in 2012, corresponding to a decrease of 8 per cent.
