Minor increase in manufacturing

Norwegian manufacturing experienced a slight increase in output in the period March to May 2005, compared with the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The production of capital goods improved whereas there was a decline in the production of intermediate goods.

The output of transport equipment, as well as machinery and equipment n.e.c increased in this last three month period when compared with the previous period. Even electrical and optical equipment experienced a rise in production, mainly due to growing demand in the export market. The fall in output in the oil platform industry is mainly due to a decline in the earlier part of the period whereas the industry had an increase in output in the latter part of the period.

Intermediate goods

There was a 2.4 per cent decrease in the production of intermediate goods in the period March to May 2005 compared with the previous three-month period. This is mainly due to a fall in production of pulp, paper and paper products and basic chemicals. Other non-metallic mineral products show an increase in output in the same period, despite a decrease from April to May.

Consumer goods

The production of durable consumer goods shows a definite rise in this period compared with the previous period, whereas non-durable consumer such as food products experienced a slight decrease. Parts of the publishing, printing and reproduction industry, however, experienced a rise.
