More fertilizing of forest

In total, 8 400 hectares of forest land were fertilized in 2016, according to new figures from Silviculture. This is an increase of 7 700 hectares from the previous year. The huge increase was due to new government subsidies from 2016.

More forest planting
In total, 18 600 hectares were planted in 2016, which is an increase of 1 400 hectares from 2015. A total of 34.2 million forest plants were planted. About 44 per cent of all forest planting in Norway was carried out in the counties of Hedmark and Oppland. A total of 4 900 and 3 200 hectares were planted in these counties respectively.

Less tending of young stand
Scarification was performed on 6 700 hectares in 2016, a decrease of 8 per cent from 2015. A major part, 62 per cent, was carried out in Hedmark.
Tending of young stands was applied to a total of 26 400 hectares in 2016, which is 1 200 hectares less than in the previous year.
NOK 363 million invested
In total, NOK 363 million was invested in silviculture, which is NOK 39 million more than the year before. NOK 179 million was invested in forest planting and NOK 103 million in tending of young stands. The remaining amount was invested in scarification, clearing and similar work. Government subsidies accounted for NOK 66 million of the total costs.
