Small increase for moose hunt
During the last years the yield from the moose hunt has been around 38 000 animals. A total of 37 892 animals were felled in the autumn 2002, which is 592 animals more than last year.
The felling rate shows how many animals that were shot as a percentage of the number of licenses issued. For the country as a whole, the felling rate was 85 per cent. A total of 12 626 calves, 11 422 1 ½ years of age and 13 844 older animals were felled the autumn 2002. The distribution by sex was 54 per cent male and 46 per cent female.
7 360 moose shot in Hedmark
Hedmark is still the largest moose county, measured by both the total number of hunting licenses and the total number of felled animals.. Nearly 20 per cent of all moose shot in 2002 were felled in Hedmark. Totally 8 188 licenses were issued, and 7 360 animals were felled.
By dividing the number of moose felled by the size of the hunting area, Akershus county gets the highest score. In average, 5.4 animals were shot per 10 km² of hunting area in 2002. Østfold and Vestfold are next in line with 4.5 and 4.4 respectively.
Over 1 000 felled moose in Trysil
Trysil is still the largest moose municipality. Of a quota of 1 216 animals, 1 007 were shot. Steinkjer is next in line with 759 moose, and Drangedal and Stor-Elvdal follow with 673 and 605 moose respectively.
Continued increase in Finnmark
The stock of moose has increased in Finnmark in the past years, resulting in higher felling. From 1992 to 2002 the yield increased from 204 to 628 animals. Totally, 740 permissions were issued, which are 106 more than the previous autumn.
56 600 moose hunters
Among the cervid species, moose hunting is most common. A total of 55 600 hunters took part in moose hunting in the autumn 2001. See the statistics on hunters for more details.
