Reduced horticultural production in 2010
The total production of field grown vegetables in 2010 was 114 300 tonnes, while greenhouse vegetables came to 31 800 tonnes.
The total production of fruit is estimated at 14 500 tonnes in 2010. Apples represented 12 000 tonnes of the total fruit production, plums 1 300 tonnes and cherries and sweet cherries 650 tonnes. The total production of garden berries is estimated at 10 000 tonnes, of which strawberries made up 7 300 tonnes.
The horticultural production was lower in 2010 than in previous years. Some of this reduction is due to a better data basis through the Census of Agriculture 2010. Another reason for the low yields in 2010 is the high levels of rain at the beginning of the growing season and during the harvesting period in most of the country.
