Increased yield of wild reindeer
In total, 7 140 wild reindeer were shot during the hunting season in 2013; an increase of 1 700 animals from 2012, and the highest yield since 2000.

The harvest percentage was 39; an increase of 6 percentage points from 2012. The distribution of age and sex of the harvested animals has remained approximately unchanged in recent years. A total of 1 984 calves, 1 063 aged 1½ years, 1 854 older males and 2 239 older females were shot last autumn.
Marked increase on Hardangervidda
The Hardangervidda plateau is Norway's largest wild reindeer area. This autumn, permissions to shoot 7 025 animals in this area were given, and 2 087 animals were shot. In the hunting year 2012, permissions were given to shoot 6 020 animals, while 1 190 were shot. The hunting success rate rose from 20 per cent in 2012 to 30 per cent in 2013.
Increased yield in Snøhetta and Ottadalsområdet
Behind Hardangervidda, the yield in Snøhetta and Ottadalsområdet wild reindeer areas increased most of all, and 692 and 745 animals were shot respectively. This is an increase of 263 and 217 animals from the year before. Setesdal-Ryfylke, Nordfjella and Forelhogna also increased significantly.
In the remaining wild reindeer areas, only small changes or declines in harvest figures were recorded.
More reindeer hunters
Statistics on wild reindeer hunters in 2013 will be published next year. However, 9 450 hunters hunted wild reindeer in the autumn of 2012; an increase of 450 from the year before.
