Fewer wild reindeer shot
In total, about 6 500 wild reindeer were shot during the hunting season in 2015; which is about 1 400 animals fewer than the season before.

The total number of permissions to shoot was set at the same level as in 2014, while the harvest percentage declined by 7 percentage points and ended at 31. A total of 1 700 calves, 1 100 of which were aged 1.5 years, 1 600 older males and 2 200 older females were shot.
Decline in yield on Hardangervidda
The Hardangervidda plateau is Norway's largest wild reindeer area. The permissions to shoot were reduced from about 9 000 animals in 2014 to 8 000 in 2015. In the autumn of 2015, about 1 700 animals were shot, which is a decline of 900 from the previous hunting season.
Behind Hardangervidda, the wild reindeer area of Snøhetta had the largest yield, and 770 animals were shot in the autumn of 2015. This is a decline of 9 per cent from the autumn before.
More reindeer hunters
Statistics on wild reindeer hunters in 2015 will be published next year. However, 10 600 hunters hunted wild reindeer in the autumn of 2014; an increase of 800 from the year before.
