Registered mortality of large carnivores and eagles. 1994/95-2001/02.

90 lynx felled

A total of 102 lynx were reported killed or had died of other causes during the hunting year 2001/02. This is 5 more than in the previous year. 116 licenses for felling of lynx were issued, and altogether 87 were shot. Two were felled in self-defence and one felled as noxious. 12 lynx were killed by cars or trains.

Most lynx were felled in the county of Nord-Trøndelag, where 17 were killed. In Hedmark county 14 animals were killed, and in each of the counties Oppland and Nordland 12 lynx were shot.

License hunting of wolverines

A total of 50 licenses for felling wolverines were issued, and 23 animals were shot. Most wolverines were felled in Troms, where 8 animals were taken. In addition to the licence hunt, 21 were felled as noxious, and 4 died of other causes.

Less wolves felled

In the hunting year 2001/02 two wolves were felled, one as noxious and one in self-defence. By comparison, 17 wolves were felled the previous hunting year. This is due to the fact that as many as 13 animals were felled as noxious in 2000/01, including 9 wolves in Østerdalen in February-March 2001.

More dead eagles

Last hunting year 42 eagles were reported dead. This is 10 more than the year before. 5 eagles were hit by trains and 3 by cars, whereas 34 were registered killed by ”other reasons”.

Less bears were shot

3 bears were shot as noxious, compared with 6 animals the previous hunting year.
