Timber prices went up
A total of 2.2 million cubic metres timber were cut for sale in the first quarter of 2007. Compared with the corresponding quarter in 2006, this is 150 000 cubic metres more. The average timber price rose by NOK 43.
The aggregated gross value of the roundwood sold to the industry in the first quarter of 2007 amounted to NOK 780 million - an increase of 13 per cent compared with the same quarter last year. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners on average obtained a price of NOK 362 per cubic metre sold, NOK 43 more than in the first quarter of 2006.
Regional differences
For the country as a whole, the commercial roundwood removals increased by 7 per cent in the first quarter 2007 compared with the first quarter of 2006. Half of the increase occurred in the county of Hedmark, where the removals totalled 615 000 cubic metres. The removals of the counties of Oppland and Buskerud rose by 24 000 and 39 000 cubic metres respectively.
