Increase in roundwood prices
A total of 2.2 million cubic metres of timber was cut for sale in the first quarter of 2008. The average timber price rose by NOK 32 to NOK 394.
For the country as a whole, commercial roundwood removals increased by 2 per cent in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the first quarter of 2007. In Oppland and Nord-Trøndelag counties, the increase was 19 000 and 14 000 cubic metres respectively.
The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry was NOK 860 million in the first quarter of 2008 - an increase of 11 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in 2007. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained NOK 394 per cubic metre on average, an increase of NOK 32 compared with the first quarter of 2007. The average price per cubic metre of saw logs increased by NOK 37, while pulpwood increased by NOK 35 from the first quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2008.
