Fewer persons had forestry income
In 2009, one in five personal forest owners had entrepreneurial income from forestry. The average income from forestry was NOK 34 000; a decrease of 5 per cent from 2008.
The number of personal forest owners with positive forestry income decreased by 5 per cent from the previous year. In total, almost 23 900 persons had this type of income. Of these, 15 per cent had an entrepreneurial income from forestry exceeding NOK 50 000.
Forestry income totalled NOK 901 million
There are 111 700 personal forest owners with a productive forest area of 25 decares or more. In 2009, their accumulated entrepreneurial income from forestry was NOK 813 million. In addition, spouses of forest owners had NOK 88 million in income from forestry in the same year. In 2008, the corresponding income was NOK 903 million and NOK 98 million respectively.
Average gross income decreased
The average gross income of forest owners with entrepreneurial income from forestry was NOK 466 000; a decrease of NOK 17 000 compared with 2008. Income from forestry accounted for 7 per cent of the gross income, while other entrepreneurial income accounted for 32 per cent. Income from wages and salaries accounted for 43 per cent, and the remainder was made up of pensions and other income. Other wages, which comprise financial income, decreased by 30 per cent compared with 2008.
Personal forest ownerWhen the forest is owned by an individual owner, the owner is called a personal forest owner. The majority of forest owners in Norway are personal forest owners. Some properties have several personal owners. In such cases, the statistics refer to one reference person.
