Small increase in forestry income

In 2011, average earnings for forest owners with a profit from forestry were NOK 37 000. Four out of five forest owners had a profit of less than NOK 50 000.

In 2011, the number of personal forest owners with positive forestry income was 22 900. Of these, 8 per cent had an entrepreneurial income from forestry exceeding NOK 100 000.

Forestry income totalled NOK 947 million

There are 113 500 personal forest owners with a productive forest area of 25 decares or more. In 2011, their accumulated entrepreneurial income from forestry was NOK 849 million. In addition, spouses of forest owners had NOK 98 million in income from forestry in the same year. In 2010, the corresponding income was NOK 815 million and NOK 84 million respectively.

Average gross income increased

The average gross income of forest owners with entrepreneurial income from forestry was NOK 526 000, an increase of NOK 24 000 compared with 2010. Income from forestry accounted for 7 per cent of the gross income, while other entrepreneurial income accounted for 31 per cent. Income from wages and salaries accounted for 42 per cent, and the remainder was made up of pensions and other income.
