Highest activity in Telemark

Irrespective of road standard, the county of Telemark had the highest number of new forest roads last year. In total, 21 kilometres of all-year roads for lorries and 81 kilometres winter roads for lorries and roads for tractors were built in Telemark.

More reconstruction than new construction

Every year since 1993 more roads have been rebuilt than built as new. The needs for maintenance of older roads and upgrades of the road standard have been prevalent. In 2003, 410 kilometres of all-year roads and 63 kilometres of winter roads and roads for tractors were rebuilt.

The total costs of construction and reconstruction amounted to NOK 149 million in 2003, a decrease of NOK 39 million from 2002. The road construction expenditure is divided between NOK 110 million on all-year roads for lorries and NOK 39 million on winter roads for lorries and tractors. Government subsidies and loans covered NOK 55 million of the costs, and the owners paid the remaining NOK 94 million.
