Slight decrease in forest road construction
In total, 69 kilometres of new all-year roads and summer roads were built and 232 kilometres were rebuilt in 2009. This is 5 and 84 kilometres more than in the previous year respectively.
Total costs for construction and reconstruction of forest roads amounted to NOK 117 million in 2009. Government subsidies accounted for NOK 35 million of the costs. The average expenditure was NOK 263 per metre of all-year roads and summer roads, and NOK 100 per metre of winter roads and tractor roads. In total, 291 kilometres of new winter and tractor roads were built and 91 kilometres were rebuilt in 2009.
Many forest roads
Although there is little construction of new forest roads, the total length of such roads in Norway is extensive. A total of 48 600 kilometres of all-year roads and summer roads were registered at the beginning of 2010. In comparison, the total length of public roads in Norway is 93 000 kilometres.
Winter roads and tractor roadsWinter and tractor roads are built to a lower standard than all-year roads and summer roads. |

What are the statistics about?
All forest roads need to be approved by the Forest Service before the road is registered as completed. Some of the roads are
built over several years, and the registered number and length does not correspond exactly with the actual construction in
the current year.
