Increase in production of pork and poultry

281 300 tonnes of meat from domestic animal production were approved for the market in 2004, an increase of 15 600 tonnes from 2003.

113 500 tonnes of pork, 86 600 tonnes of beef and veal, 54 200 tonnes of poultry and 26 100 tonnes of mutton and lamb were approved for the market in 2004. Compared with 2003, the production of pork and poultry increased by 7 500 and 5 200 tonnes respectively.

Pork accounted for 40 per cent of the total meat production in 2004, while beef and poultry accounted for 31 per cent and 19 per cent respectively.
