Enterprises within motion picture and video activities experienced a 12 per cent increase in turnover, to NOK 3,4 billion, more than the industry's average of 10 per cent. The cinemas, on the other hand, had a decline in turnover by 3 per cent from 2003.
The statistics include the industry groups radio and television activities, motion picture and video activities and news agency activities.
Increased value added within radio and television
Turnover in radio and television amounted to NOK 7,1 billion, which constitutes 62 per cent of total turnover within cultural services. Radio and television had a NOK 235 million positive operation result in 2004. This result is lower compared to the previous year, but higher than 2002. Value added within radio and television increased by 3,9 per cent, to NOK 3,3 billion.
High profitability in news agencies
News agencies includes freelance journalists and press photographers. The majority of these KAUs have one employee. The turnover amounted to NOK 902 million and there were 845 employees. Also in this industry the value added increased. The operating result increased by 62 per cent to NOK 143 million, while value added increased by 18,6 per cent.
Statistics on the enterprise level
The structural business statistics for cultural activities are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level the turnover was NOK 11,7 billion, while 9 356 persons were employed in 2004. Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level due to the fact that their enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs. More detailed information about this and other definitions used in the structural business statistics for cultural services is available in "About the statistics".
Employment
Starting in 2004 the methods for gathering and estimating employment were changed. Employment figures are now collected directly through the Registrar of Employers and Employees (Arbeidsgiver- og Arbeidstakerregistret, a.k.a. AA-registret). The change makes it difficult to compare employement figures over time. For more on this change see “About the statistics”.
