Value added, by industry subclass. Local KAUs. 2002-2006. NOK billion

The statistics include cultural industry groups such as motion picture and video activities, news agencies, and radio and television. The total value added for the firms was NOK 5.3 billion in 2006. This represents a 29 per cent increase from 2002. Turnover increased more than employment.

Value added was highest within the radio and TV industry. Turnover for businesses within this industry ended at NOK 8.5 billion.

Growth in film and video

Firms within the motion picture and video industry noted a 13 per cent increase in employment from 2005. Turnover reached NOK 1.8 billion, a 17 per cent increase from the previous year. The businesses created values for NOK 676 million in 2006.

More news agencies

The news agency industry also include freelance journalists and press photographers. The industry employed a total of 849 persons in 2006. This is a 6.3 per cent increase from 2005. Personell costs increased by 2.7 per cent in the same period. Personell costs per employee shrunk by NOK 10 000. An operating margin of 19 per cent represents an all time high.

Statistics on the enterprise level

The structural business statistics for post and telecommunication activities are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate from figures on the local KAU level. This is due to the fact that the enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs.

Revision of industries

In 2007, the enterprises in Statistic Norway’s Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises have been coded in accordance with the new Standard Industrial Classification (SN2007). This has revealed some incorrectly classified enterprises and local KAUs. In such cases, the code according to the current standard (SN2002) has been revised. The impact for cultural service activities has been minor.
