Total tourism consumption NOK 90 billion
According to preliminary figures, Norwegian and foreign tourists spent almost NOK 90 billion in Norway last year. This is NOK 4.2 billion, or 5 per cent, more than in 2004.
Norwegian tourists increased their tourist consumption from about NOK 41 billion in 2004 to almost NOK 43 billion in 2005. Foreign tourists spent NOK 26.4 billion in Norway, while business travellers spent close to NOK 18 billion.
The consumption of so-called tourism products increased by NOK 3.4 billion last year. These products are services that are characteristic for the tourist industry and mainly include accommodation, food and beverage serving services and passenger transport services. More than half of the total tourist consumption was spent on such services.
Increase in total tourism industries
According to preliminary figures, the value of the total production in tourism industries was NOK 7.4 billion higher in 2005 than in 2004. In volume this is a 5 per cent increase. Hotels and restaurants are the largest industry and account for 33 per cent of the total production.
Tourism industries accounted for 3.1 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2005. This is slightly lower than in previous years.
Revision and region
The tourism satellite account is based on the Norwegian national accounts. Because of the recent revision of the national accounts the time series on tourism consumption will be updated as soon as the calculations have been carried out.
