NOK 8.7 billion on environmental protection in 2011
The total expenditure on environmental protection in the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industries, including oil and gas extraction was NOK 8.7 billion in 2011. This is a decrease of NOK 1 billion from 2010, but still NOK 0.5 billion more than in 2009.

Of the total expenditure on environmental protection in 2010, current expenditure was NOK 5.1 billion. Environmental investments reached NOK 3.6 billion. In 2010, the corresponding figures were NOK 5.6 and 4.2 billion respectively.
During the period 2008–2011, the share of current expenditures increased from 51 per cent to 58 per cent of the total environmental expenditure. Investments in end of pipe solutions also increased from 27 per cent in 2008 to 35 per cent in 2011. Consequently, environmental investments in integrated technologies were down from 49 per cent to 42 per cent.
