Slight decrease in public purchasing

In 2000 the public sector purchased NOK 213 billion worth of goods and services. This is a decrease of 0.3 per cent compared with the previous year. The overall public purchases amounted around 15 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

The general government share of the overall public purchases was 70 per cent or NOK 149 billion. The remaining 30 per cent were purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

61 per cent was intermediate consumption

The figures show that intermediate consumption represents 61 per cent of purchases made by the general government. Gross fixed capital formation and social benefits in kind represents 27 and 12 per cent respectively.

Public enterprises buy less

In 2000, goods and services purchased by public unincorporated enterprises amounted to NOK 64.5 billion. This is a decrease of NOK 5.4 billion, or 7.4 per cent, compared with 1999. The main reason for this decline is a significant reduction in the investments made by The Directorate of Public Construction and Property.

What is public purchasing?
