Significant increase in public purchasing

In 2006, the total public purchases of goods and services amounted to about NOK 315 billion. This is an increase of NOK 36.4 billion, or 13.1 per cent, compared with 2005. Public purchases made up 14.6 per cent of the gross domestic product.

Public unincorporated enterprises increased their purchases by NOK 19.3 billion, while purchases made by general government increased by NOK 17.1 billion.

The general government’s proportion of the overall public purchases was 74 per cent. The remaining 26 per cent were purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

Increase in both central and local government

The purchases made by general government units amounted to NOK 231.6 billion. This is an increase of 19.3 billion, or 9.1 per cent, compared with the previous year. Both central and local government contributed to the increase in total purchases for the general government.

The central government purchases increased by NOK 9.3 billion, while the municipalities and the county municipalities increased theirs by NOK 8.5 billion and NOK 1.4 billion respectively.

More in the oil sector

The total purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises amounted to NOK 83.3 billion in 2006. This is an increase of NOK 17.1 billion, or 26 per cent, compared with 2005. There were increases in the oil sector and municipal and county municipal quasi corporations. Compared to 2005, the increases were NOK 12.1 billion and NOK 7.1 billion respectively. The relatively significant increase in the municipal and the county municipal quasi corporations is due to a rise in the intermediate consumption. This is as a result of the improved method of data collection in Statistics Norway as well as the increased expenditure in renovation in real estates and investments.
