New price index for architectural services

Statistics Norway has developed a price index for architectural services. The index is quarterly, and from the 1st quarter 1998 to the 4th quarter 2000 the index increased by 16.5 per cent.

From the 1st quarter of 1998 until the same quarter in 1999 the prices on architectural services rose by 3.9 per cent, and increased an additional 8.1 per cent the following year until the 1st quarter 2000. During 2000, the price increased by 5.5 percent.

By using the price index for architectural services to deflate the industry's turnover, we find that the growth of 19.6 per cent in turnover from the 1st quarter 1998 until the 4th quarter 2000 is reduced to a 6.5 per cent increase in production volume.
