HICP down 0.2 per cent
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway fell by 0.2 per cent from December 2013 to January 2014. Lower prices of clothes, airfares and furniture contributed most to the decrease, while higher prices on food and non-alcoholic beverages pulled the HICP in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 116.4 (2005=100) in January 2014, compared to 114.0 in January 2013. The year-to-year growth was 2.1 per cent in January, up 0.3 percentage points from December 2013.

EU, EEA and the euro area
Preliminary data for December 2013 show that the HICP was 120.8 (2005=100) for the EU and 120.7 for the EEA, while the HICP for the euro area was 117.9 (2005=100). The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for December 2013 was 1.0 per cent for the EU and the EEA. In the euro area, the preliminary year-to-year growth was 0.8 per cent in December. The year-to-year growth for January 2014 in the euro area is estimated at 0.7 per cent.
Detailed figures for January will be published on Eurostat’s website on 24 February.
