Increase in CPI for Svalbard
The consumer price index (CPI) for Svalbard increased by 2.7 per cent from October 2008 to October 2009. It was mainly the price development in electricity and heath energy that contributed to the growth in CPI, while airline fares pulled in the opposite direction.
The CPI for Svalbard was 117.6 in October 2009 and 114.5 (March 2001=100) in October 2008, up 2.7 per cent. The consumption divisions that contributed most were housing, water, electricity and fuels, food and non alcoholic beverages, hotels and restaurants together with alcoholic beverages and tobacco. The prices of goods and services within transport together with communications decreased and pulled the index in the opposite direction.
