Decline in foreign market
Norwegian camping sites had 1,416 million overnight stays in August this year. This was 35 000 fewer overnight stays than in August 1999. Business from abroad declined eight per cent, while the domestic market increased 1.5 per cent.
Compared with August last year, all of the largest foreign markets declined. Germany accounted for the biggest absolute decrease in overnight stays, 24 000, followed by Sweden with 8 000. Compared with August 1999, business from the Netherlands and Denmark also declined.
To date
Norwegian camping sites have recorded 6,391 million overnight stays so far this year. During the same period last year there were 6,426 million overnight stays, a decline of 0.5 per cent. The foreign market was down 3.7 per cent, while the domestic market increased by a modest 0.9 per cent.
Reduced capacity
In August 2000, 892 camping sites were open with altogether 12 774 cabins/room. The corresponding figures for August 1999 were 900 camping grounds and 12 949 cabins/rooms.
