42 million tonnes transported

A total of 42.4 million tonnes were transported to and from Norwegian and foreign ports in the first quarter this year. 36 per cent of the total amount of goods was transported between Norwegian ports, oil installations included. [The figures are corrected 06.08.2002.]

The figures are from Statistics Norway's new port statistics, which are produced based on reports from public and private ports with a total amount of transported goods of about one million tonnes or more, a total of 29 ports.

The amount of transported goods domestically was about the same for loaded and unloaded goods. Of 27.7 million tonnes goods transported between a Norwegian and a foreign port, 23.5 million were transported from Norway to a foreign port. Transport of oil and gas explains this.

8.1 million tonnes of goods were transported to and from ports in the Oslo fjord of which the amount in the port of Oslo made up about 19 per cent.
