42.2 million tonnes of cargo transported

42.2 million tonnes of cargo were transported between Norwegian ports, and between Norwegian and foreign ports in the 2nd quarter this year. In the first quarter 44 million tonnes were transported.

Total cargo, by type of cargo. 2nd quarter 2002. Per cent

New revised statistics for the 1s t quarter are published together with the 2n d quarters statistics. The quarterly port statistics comprise all national ports and all ports with handling goods of 1 million tonnes cargo and more. Local traffic and transport of fish and transport from Norwegian oil installations to foreign ports are not included in the statistics. See: About the statistics.

14.5 million tonnes of cargo in domestic trade

14.5 million tonnes of cargo were transported between domestic ports in the 2nd quarter, of which 4.4 million were loaded and 10.1 million were unloaded. Transport of crude oil and petroleum products explains the discrepancy between loaded and unloaded cargo in domestic trade.

Wet bulk

25.6 million tonnes or 60.6 per cent of total cargo transported were wet bulk. Transport to and from Bergen port district (which includes the oil terminals Mongstad and Sture) constitutes 18.6 million of this.

Dry bulk

10.9 million tonnes of dry cargo were transported in the 2n d quarter, of which 8 million went to foreign ports. The port of Narvik constitutes almost half of all loaded dry bulk, mainly ore to foreign ports.

Containers

Almost 900 000 containers were transported in the 2n d quarter, and 829 000 in the 1s t quarter. 77 658 containers were transported by cargo, and 24 370 containers without. The port of Oslo constitutes 31 per cent of all cargo transported in containers.
