Increase in container traffic

Measured in TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) 142 577 containers were transported over Norwegian ports in the second quarter of 2005. This is an increase of 7 per cent from the previous year. 101 885 of this were containers with cargo.

The total amount of cargo carried in the second quarter of 2005 was 44.5 million tonnes. Compared with the same quarter in 2004 this was a decrease of 4 per cent. 14.8 million tones of cargo were transported between Norwegians ports. Wet bulk constitutes 56 per cent of the total amount of cargo transported.

Vessels registered in NOR or NIS transported 35 per cent of the total amount of cargo.

Ferry transport

In the second quarter 2005, 1.6 millions passengers were carried on the ferry services to and from Norway - an increase of 4.5 per cent from the same quarter previous year. Four out of five passengers travel through the ports of Oslo, Kristiansand and Sandefjord.
