Steady container traffic

Measured in TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) 141 657 containers were transported over Norwegian ports in the third quarter of 2005. This is 2 607 more than in the same quarter in 2004.

99 783 TEU-containers with cargo were handled in the third quarter 2005, this is an increase of 2.4 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2004. In total 1.1 million tonnes of cargo were transported in TEU-containers.

The total amount of cargo transported was 48.1 million tonnes, and dry bulk cargo constitutes 28 per cent of this. The ports of Narvik and Grenland handled 42 per cent of total dry bulk cargo.

More passangers

2.3 million passengers were carried on the ferry services to and from Norway in the third quarter of 2005. This is approximately 100 000 more than in the same period 2004. Port of Oslo accounted for 35 per cent of all passengers traveling abroad.

The numbers for port of Bergen is estimated based on the development of the other ports.
