Less cargo over Norwegian ports

In the first quarter of 2007, Norwegian ports handled 44.6 million tones of cargo, a decrease of 1.9 per cent compared with same period last year.

14.7 million tonnes of cargo were transported between Norwegians ports, while 29.9 tonnes were transported between Norwegian and foreign ports. Wet bulk constitute for 55 per cent of the total amount of cargo transported. Measured in TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) 152 250 containers were transported over Norwegian ports in 1s t quarter. This is an increase of 1.8 per cent from the previous year.

Yearly statistics 2006

197 million tonnes of cargo were handled by Norwegian ports in 2006, a decrease of 2.3 per cent compared to 2005. Large ports with a total cargo of more than 1 million tonnes handled 181 million tonnes and small ports handled 16 million tonnes.

Port calls

Port calls went down with 1.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2007 compared with the same quarter last year. The general cargo vessels share of this was 48.4 per cent.

Fewer passengers on ferries

1.1 million passengers were carried on ferry services between Norway and other countries in the first quarter of 2007. This is a decrease of 3.6 per cent compared with the same quarter last year.

Coastal Express Liner

78 851 passengers traveled by the Norwegian Coastal Liner in the first quarter of 2007, an increase of 3.9 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2006. The numbers of passengers traveling southbound were 36 968, and 41 883 passengers traveled on the northbound route.
