Decrease in international passengers

In the third quarter of 2007, international ferries going to and from Norwegian ports carried 2.3 million passengers. This is a decrease of 77 500 or 3.3 per cent from the corresponding quarter in 2006. Grenland port had the strongest increase in passengers, while Larvik port had the largest decline.

454 000 passenger cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers were carried - more or less stable from the third quarter of 2006. The number of calls by ferries in international traffic was 1 922, a decrease of 14.5 per cent compared with the third quarter of 2006.

Increased growth in container freight

In total, 156 500 TEU (twenty feet equivalent unit) containers were handled in the third quarter of 2007. This is 6.5 per cent more than in the same period in 2006. 109 000 containers contained cargo, an increase of 7.3 per cent. TEU containers totalled 1.1 million tonnes in the third quarter, an increase of 6.6 per cent compared with the third quarter of 2006.

Largest growth in dry bulk freight

46.1 million tonnes of goods were loaded and unloaded in the largest Norwegian ports in the third quarter of 2007. This is a 2.1 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2006. The bulk freight accounted for 84 per cent, and Bergen and Narvik were the largest bulk ports. Wet bulk freight and dry bulk freight amounted to 23.8 million tonnes and 15.0 million tonnes respectively. 60 per cent of the wet bulk was handled by Bergen, while 29 per cent of the dry bulk was handled by Narvik. In total, there were 2 844 tanker calls and 2 124 bulk vessel calls at the largest Norwegian ports in the third quarter of 2007.

More passengers on the Norwegian Coastal Voyage

171 200 passengers travelled with the Norwegian Coastal Voyage in the third quarter of 2007. This is an increase of 680 or 0.4 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2006. The increase took place on the on the southbound line.
