Less goods in Norwegian ports
A total of 42 million tonnes of goods were transported between the largest Norwegian ports in the 4t h quarter of 2008. This is approximately 4 million tonnes or 9 per cent less than the 4t h quarter of 2007.
In the 4th quarter of 2008, liquid bulk transport totalled 22 million tonnes; a decrease of 1.8 per cent compared with the 4th quarter of 2007. Transport of dry bulk fell by 1.9 million tonnes, or 12 per cent in the 4th quarter of 2008 from the 4th quarter of 2007.
Largest decline for international goods transport
A total of 27 million tonnes of goods went between Norway and other countries during the 4th quarter of 2008. This is 3.0 million tonnes or 10 per cent less than the 4th quarter of 2007. For domestic transport, the corresponding drop in volume was 0.7 million tonnes or 4.6 per cent. International goods transport represented 64.8 per cent of the total transport volume in the 4th quarter of 2007 and 64 per cent in the 4th quarter of 2008. For domestic transport, the corresponding figures were 33.4 and 35.0 per cent.
More goods in fewer containers
Transported goods in TEU containers (twenty foot equivalent unit) totalled 1.2 million tonnes in the 4th quarter of 2008; a decrease of 80 000 tonnes or 6.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2007. About 108 000TEU containers had cargo, while the corresponding figure for the 4th quarter of 2007 was 118 000.
Fewer passengers on international ferries
A total of 1.2 million passengers travelled with international ferries in the 4th quarter of 2008; 119 000 or 9.4 per cent less compared with the 4th quarter of 2007. Kristiansand and Larvik port had an increase in traffic of 13 and 21 per cent respectively, while Oslo port had a decrease of 19per cent. The number of port calls made by international ferries fell by 190 from the 4th quarter of 2007 to 1 330 port calls in the 4th quarter of 2008.
Coastal Express Liner in slow winter mode
A total of 69 300 passengers travelled with the Coastal Express Liner in the 4th quarter of 2008; 4 700 less compared with the same period in 2007. A total of 55 per cent of all passengers travelled on the northbound route in the last quarter of 2008.
