More transport of dry bulk

Compared with the 2nd quarter of 2010, 2.6 million tonnes or 13.7 per cent more cargo was transported to and from Norwegian ports. A total of 44.6 million tonnes was transported in the same quarter in 2011.

In the 2nd quarter of 2011, 17.2 million tonnes of dry bulk were transported. Total cargo had an increase of 1.1 million tonnes, or 2.6 per cent compared with the 2nd quarter of 2010. Of the total cargo, 34 per cent was domestic cargo.

Stable container traffic

A total of 170 300 TEU containers were transported in the 2nd quarter of 2011. This was 6 000, or 3.6 per cent more than in the same quarter of 2010. The cargo in containers was 1.2 million tonnes; an increase of 0.6 per cent. The average cargo in containers was 10.6 tonnes, unchanged from the 2nd quarter of 2010.

Slightly more travellers with international ferries

In the 2nd quarter of 2011, 1.5 million passengers travelled with international ferries. This was 19 000 more than the same period in 2010. Thirty-nine per cent of all passenger traffic travelled to and from Oslo port.

More passengers with the Coastal Express Liner

During the 2nd quarter of 2011, 1 600 or 1.2 per cent more passengers travelled with the Coastal Express Liner compared with the same period in 2010. April and June had an increase in the number of passengers, while May had a decrease. In total, 138 200 passengers travelled with the Coastal Express Liner in the 2nd quarter of 2011. Forty-seven per cent of the passengers travelled in June.

Dry bulk includes grains/cereals, coal, iron ore and other non-liquid products.
