Decrease in transport of liquid bulk

A total of 21 million tonnes of liquid bulk were transported to and from the largest Norwegian ports in the 1st quarter of 2013. This was a decrease of 2.0 million tonnes, or 8.6 per cent, compared to the 1st quarter of 2012.

Bergen and Hammerfest port had a total decrease of 2.0 million tonnes of liquid bulk compared with the same period in 2012.

Decrease in total amount of goods

A total of 43.1 million tonnes of goods were transported in the 1st quarter of 2013. This was a decrease of 1.7 million tonnes, or 3.8 per cent. Thirty-five per cent of the total amount of goods was transported to and from Norwegian ports. The decrease in the total amount of goods is due to a decrease in liquids transported.

Slight increase in container and dry bulk

Overall, 174 000 TEU containers with and without cargo were transported in the 1st quarter of 2013. This was unchanged compared with the same quarter in 2012. The cargo in the containers totalled 1.3 million tonnes, an increase of 0.5 per cent. The transport of dry bulk had an increase of 0.4 per cent to 15.6 million tonnes in the same period.

More travellers with the international ferries

There was an increase of 46 000 passengers, or 4.3 per cent with the international ferries in the 1st quarter of 2013 compared with the 1st quarter of 2012. The transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans had an increase of 12 800, or 6.5 per cent. The import/export of cars had an increase of 264.

Annual statistics 2012

In 2012, almost 206 million tonnes of cargo were transported through large and smaller municipal ports. Fifty small new municipal ports have been added to the statistics.

More travellers with the Coastal Express Liner

A total of 67 879 passengers travelled on the Coastal Express Liner in the 1st quarter of 2013.

From the 1st quarter of 2013: Harstad and Kirkenes ports are included in the maritime transport statistics. Indre Tronheimsfjord port and Trondheim port are merged to Trondheim port Authority.

This must be taken into account in comparisons over time.
