Levelling of volume in Norwegian ports

A total of 46.9 million tonnes of cargo were handled in Norwegian ports during the 2nd quarter of the 2013; less than one per cent more than in the 2nd quarter of 2012. Sixty-two per cent of all cargo was to or from a foreign port.

Increased dry bulk and container transport

A total of 17.4 million tonnes of dry bulk was handled in the 2nd of 2013. This is an increase of 5.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2012. Narvik port had an increase of 0.6 million tonnes, mainly for ore. The number of TEU containers with and without cargo was 180 0000 in the 2nd quarter of 2013; 7 000 more than the 2nd quarter of 2012. The amount of cargo in these containers increased by 2.8 per cent, to 13.1 million tonnes.

Less liquid bulk

The transport of liquid bulk in the 2nd quarter of 2013 was 22.7 million tonnes; 2.8 per cent below that of the same period in 2012. Bergen and Omland Port Authority dominate liquid bulk. Bergen saw a decrease of 5.3 per cent and ended up with 12.6 million tonnes in the 2nd quarter of 2013.

Fewer travellers by boat

A total of 1.4 million passengers travelled with international ferries in the 2nd quarter of 2013. This was a decrease of 111 0000 passengers, or 7.4 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2012. Transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans fell by 16 000, or 0.5 per cent.

More travellers with the Coastal Express Liner in June

A total of 98 200 passengers travelled with the Coastal Express Liner in the 2nd quarter of 2013. June had a majority of the passengers with 47 per cent of the quarter’s total.
