More dry bulk in Norwegian ports

In the 4th quarter of 2013 there were 19.4 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo handled in Norwegian ports. This is 3.1 million tonnes more than in the same quarter of 2012.

At Grenland port; the second largest port for dry bulk after Narvik, there were 1.6 million tonnes of dry bulk handled in the 4th quarter of 2013. This is an increase of 2.8 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2012. Narvik had a decrease of 5.8 per cent to 5.4 million tonnes. Store Norske Spitsbergen Grubekompani AS saw its transport of coal double in the same period.

A total of 21.6 million tonnes of liquid bulk was handled in the 4th quarter of 2013; 3.5 per cent less than the same period in 2012. Bergen and Omland Port Authority had a small increase, while the other major ports saw a decrease.

The total amount of cargo transported in TEU containers was 1.5 million tonnes in the 4th quarter of 2013. This is an increase of 10 per cent from the same quarter in 2012.

More passengers on international ferries

During the 4th quarter of 2013 there were 32 600 more passengers; 3.1 per cent, travelling on international ferries to and from Norwegian ports. The transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans with these international ferries also increased.

December busiest month for Coastal Express Liner

During the 4th quarter of 2013 there were 54 100 passengers travelling with the Coastal Express Liner; 21 000 of these in December. For the year 2013 as a whole, there were 345 000 passengers travelling with the Coastal Liner.
