The largest sub-group of dry bulk is ‘other dry bulk’. This group increased by 22.9 per cent to 9 million tonnes from the 1st quarter of 2013 to the 1st quarter of 2014. Grenland port had 18.8 per cent of all ‘other dry bulk’ in the 1st quarter of 2014. The second largest sub-group of dry bulk is ‘ore’, with 7.1million tonnes in the 1st quarter of 2014. This is a decrease of 9.8 per cent from the same quarter in 2013. All cargo with ‘ore’ is shipped from Narvik port.

Slight decrease in liquid bulk

A total of 20.7 million tonnes of liquid bulk was transported in the 1st quarter of 2014; a decrease of 1.3 per cent from the 1st quarter of 2013. Most ports that transport liquid bulk saw a decrease. A third of all liquid bulk; 7.6 million tonnes, is crude. Eighty-seven per cent of all liquid was handled by Bergen and Omland Port Authority.

Increased container transport

A total of 1.5 million tonnes of cargo was transported in TEU containers in the first quarter of 2014. In the same quarter in 2013, 1.3 million tonnes were transported. This is an increase of 14.3 per cent. Oslo, Larvik and Mosjøen ports are the largest ports in container transport.

Less traffic on international ferries

In the 1st quarter of 2014, 135 500 fewer passengers, or 12.1 per cent, travelled with the international ferries compared with the 1st quarter of 2013. The transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans with these international ferries decreased.

Decrease in passengers with the Coastal Express Liner

In the 1st quarter of 2014, 63 0000 passengers travelled with the Coastal Liner. This was almost 5 000, or 7.2 per cent, fewer than in the 1st quarter of 2013. January had the largest decrease, with 2 300 passengers.
