Increase in traffic on international ferries

In the 3rd quarter of 2014, 2.2 million passengers travelled between Norway and abroad, almost 122 000, or 5.8 per cent, more than in the 3rd quarter of 2013.

Grenland, Sandefjord and Bergen ports had the largest increase in passengers and transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans. The traffic at other major ports with connections abroad was more or less unchanged.

Less dry and liquid bulk

In total, 20.4 million tonnes of liquid bulk were transported in the 3rd quarter of 2014. In the same quarter of 2013, the number was 21.5 million tonnes; a decrease of 5.3 per cent. All of the three largest ports for liquid bulk; Bergen and Omland port authorities, Tønsberg and Hammerfest, had a decrease.

During the 3rd quarter of 2014, 19.8 million tonnes of dry bulk were transported. This was a decrease of 1.5 million tonnes, or 7.1 per cent compared to the 3rd quarter of 2013. The two largest ports with dry bulk; Grenland and Narvik, handled 36 per cent of all dry bulk transport.

More container traffic

The total amount of cargo in containers increased by 10.5 per cent to 1.7 million tonnes in the 3rd quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter of 2013. The number of containers with cargo had an increase of 6 200. The average amount of cargo in the 3rd quarter of 2014 was 12.5 tonnes, while in the same period in 2013 the corresponding figure was 11.9 tonnes.

Increase in traffic with the Coastal Express Liner

During the 3rd quarter of 2014, the Coastal Express Liner had an increase of 8 300 passengers, or 6.7 per cent to 131 500 passengers, compared to the 3rd quarter of 2013. The month of July had the largest increase of almost 4 000 passengers. The months of August and September also had an increase.
