Increased transport of liquid bulk

During the 2nd quarter of 2015, almost 25 million tonnes of liquid bulk were transported to and from the largest Norwegian ports, which is an increase of 8.1 million tonnes, or 49 per cent compared with the same quarter of 2014.

Bergen and Omland port authorities had an increase of 3.5 million tonnes, or 43 per cent of liquid bulk in the 2nd quarter of 2015 compared with the same period in 2014. Fifty-two per cent of the total amount transported at sea was liquid bulk.

Increased traffic abroad

The total cargo in the 2nd quarter of 2015 was 46.8 million tonnes. This was an increase of 15.2 per cent from the same period of 2014. Sixty-four per cent of cargo was transported to or from a Norwegian port in the 2nd quarter of 2015 compared to 59 per cent in the same quarter in 2014.

Less dry bulk

In the 2nd quarter of 2015, 17 million tonnes of dry bulk were transported. This is a decrease of 1 million, or 6.3 per cent, compared with the same period in 2014. Narvik port had a decrease of dry bulk, mainly ore.

More container transport

Cargo transported in containers had an increase of 7.9 per cent to 1.5 million tonnes in the 2nd quarter of 2015, compared with the 2nd quarter in 2014.

Slight increase with the international ferries

Almost 1.6 million passengers travelled with the international ferries during the 2nd quarter of 2015. This was an increase of 39 000 passengers compared to the same quarter in 2014. The transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans was 338 000; an increase of 10 000 units, or 3.1 per cent compared with the 2nd quarter in 2014.

Increased traffic with the Coastal Express Liner

In the 2nd quarter of 2015, 107 000 passengers travelled with the coastal express liner. This was an increase of 8 000 or 8.1 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2014. During the first half of 2015, 174 000 passengers travelled on this popular route. This was an increase of 12 000 passengers compared to the same period in 2015.
