Figure 1. Goods loaded and unloaded per quarter in international transport

Sixty-four per cent of the total cargo was transported to or from an international port. The port of Narvik and Grenland had the largest international transportation of dry bulk. Bergen and Omland authorities are the largest ports for international and domestic transportation, mainly with liquid bulk

Container traffic

Annual statistics 2015: more cargo transported in Norwegian ports

A total of about 205 million tonnes of cargo was transported to or from Norwegian ports in 2015. This represents an increase of 5 per cent, or 10 million tonnes, compared to 2014. The small ports, which include both public and private ports handling less than 1000 tonnes of cargo each year, represented about 9.8 per cent of all maritime transport in Norwegian ports in 2015. In 2014, the corresponding percentage was 10.7.

Increase in traffic with international ferries

A total of 1.2 million1 passengers travelled with international ferries during the 1st quarter of 2016. This is an increase of 172 000 passengers compared with the 1st quarter of 2015. Starting from the 1st quarter of 2015, the cargo type Roll-on Roll-off (road goods vehicles and accompanying trailers) is not included in the statistics. This change has little effect on the comparability between previous quarters at an aggregated level, since only a few ports were affected.

On a more detailed level, the effects on comparability are somewhat greater.
