Despite small changes in total tonnage, there were still changes within each type of transport. Of the total tonnage transported, 42 per cent was dry bulk transport, which is an increase of 13 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015. Correspondingly, the transport of liquid bulk had a share of 47 per cent; a decrease of 12 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015. The port of Narvik had the largest increase in dry bulk, while the Port of Bergen had the largest decline in the transport of liquid bulk.

Container traffic

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, 1.4 million tonnes of cargo were transported in containers. This is a year-on-year decrease of 8.1 per cent. A total of 190 000 TEU containers, including both containers with and without cargo, were transported in the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Fewer passengers on the international ferries

A total of 1.5 million passengers travelled with the international ferries during the 2nd quarter of 2016. This is a decrease of 75 000 passengers compared with the 2nd quarter of 2015. The ports of Oslo and Kristiansand experienced a decrease of 67 000 passengers in total.

The transportation of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans with the international ferries to or from abroad, ended on 328 000 units. This represents a decrease of nearly 10 000 units.

Fewer travellers with the Coastal Express Liner

Adjusted extend Open and readClose

Starting from the 1st quarter of 2015, the cargo type Roll-on Roll-off (road goods vehicles and accompanying trailers) is not included in the statistics. This change has little effect on the comparability between previous quarters at an aggregated level, since only a few ports were affected.

On a more detailed level, the effects on comparability are somewhat greater.
