The 3.1 million new train boardings correspond to a growth of 4.6 per cent from 2013 to 2014, while 4.9 million new passengers by light rail, tram and underground constituted a growth of 3.4 per cent. There were also 4.1 million more passengers by bus, with a growth of just 1.2 per cent.
Public means of transport travelled 4.6 million kilometres less in 2014 than in 2013; a fall of 1.1 per cent. A shift in use from buses and boats to rails, where there are significantly more seats, gave us 123 million seat kilometres more..
Reduction outside city areas
Scheduled buses are the heart of public transport in the district areas. The clear trend is a reduction in both offer and use in these areas. This is in contrast to the city areas where most components show growth.
Express buses also saw a continued reduction from 2013 to 2014, but here the mean journey was extended so that the overall transport performance increased by 1.3 per cent.
