The public transport almost unchanged

There were only small changes in public transport, comparing first halves of 2005 and 2006. Second quarter of 2006 gave us reduction for all variables, especially for route production.

Vehicle-/boat-/train kms, passengers and ticket revenues.

Compared with the second quarter of 2005, the vehicle-, boat-, and train kilometres were more than six per cent lower than in the corresponding quarter of 2006,. All the reduction was caused by less vehicle kilometres produced in the bus sector. Boat traffic increased slightly, but simultaneously the passenger figures dropped hard.

Increasing ticket revenues

Comparing first quarter in both years, a 13 per cent increase in ticket revenues for rail transport was observed. The decrease of ticket revenues in the second quarter was not at big as expected, regarding the drop in traffic figures for the other modes of transport.

We want to mention that Easter was in first quarter in 2005 and in second quarter in 2006. This might influence the comparison.

Statistics Norway published new annual figures from public transport on 31 October 2006. This article presents quarterly statistics for the first time. The figures are preliminary and might be adjusted comparing to new annual survey for 2005 and 2006.
