Steady growth in public transport
The number of passengers who travelled by bus, boat and rail increased by 12 per cent from the first half of 2008 to the first half of 2009. Transportation by rail had the strongest relative growth of 15 per cent, while transportation by bus added up to 14 million extra passengers. Despite this, preliminary figures show just a small increase of 2 per cent in ticket revenues.

A total of 25.5 million more passengers travelled by bus, boat and rail in the first half of 2009 compared with the first half of 2008. Twelve million of these new passengers travelled by rail, and scarcely 14 million by bus. The number of boat passengers decreased almost 10 per cent; a reduction of about half a million passengers.
Slight increase in ticket revenues
From the first half of 2008 to the first half of 2009, the total ticket revenues increased by only 2.5 per cent, or NOK 147 million. The increase was almost even for bus and rail, and there was no change in boat revenues.
Less train kilometres
From the first half of 2008 to the first half of 2009, the total number of vehicle kilometres rose by more than 2 per cent, but train kilometres fell by around 3 per cent. There was no change in the number of boat kilometres.
Difficult to compare over timeBoth the boat and the bus sector have faced large changes in structure, technology and types of contracts during recent years. These changes make it difficult to compare numbers over time. The figures are preliminary and may be adjusted when compared to the new annual survey for 2009. |
