More passengers by tram and underground

Overall, there was an increase of 1.3 per cent in public transport from the second quarter of 2009 to the second quarter of 2010. The entire growth, of 1.5 million passengers, related to transport by rail.

Public transport by bus flattened out after the record high of 2009. The number of passengers by boat and rail also stabilised, while tram and underground in total had a clear growth. Kilometres offered was reduced by 8.3 per cent for boats, and 2.5 per cent for buses. Train kilometres increased by 2.5 per cent.

Lower ticket revenues

Ticket revenues from rail passengers increased by NOK 56 million, while the bus companies lost NOK 35 million despite stable passenger figures. This reduction in average ticket revenue may be due to reduced tariffs or shorter fares.

Difficult to compare over time

Both the boat and the bus sector have faced large changes in structure, technology and types of contracts during recent years. These changes make it difficult to compare numbers over time.

The figures are preliminary and might be adjusted for comparisons to the new annual survey for 2010.
