Renewed passenger growth

After two quarters of stagnation, public transport showed an increase of 3.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011. The growth was strongest for rail, but transport by bus also had a new increase.

Overall, there was an increase of 4.3 million passengers on public transport in the second quarter of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011. Passenger growth for both rail and bus was more than 2 million, with increases of 4.8 and 2.7 per cent respectively.

Production had an overall growth of 1.5 million kilometres, or 1.5 per cent.

Most of the growth was by tram and underground

Almost all passenger growth on rails was by tram and underground. The number of train passengers was almost unaltered from the second quarter of 2011 to the second quarter of 2012.

Train kilometres increased by 1.7 per cent.

Fall in ticket revenues for bus and boat

Despite the increase in bus passengers, ticket revenues were reduced by NOK 8.5 million (0.8 per cent). The number of boat passengers was reduced by 2.1 per cent from the second quarter of 2011 to the second quarter of 2012, and ticket revenues dropped by 13.3 per cent.
