Figure 1. Passengers. Preliminary figures

Despite a minor reduction in kilometres produced, there was a registered growth of more than 7.1 million passengers from the fourth quarter in 2012 to the corresponding quarter in 2013. The increase was 3.7 per cent for bus passengers, 7.2 per cent for transport on rails and 9.7 per cent by boat.

Increased ticket revenues for bus and on rails

Ticket revenues increased by as much as 11.4 per cent from the fourth quarter 2012 compared to the corresponding quarter in 2013, and totalled NOK 1.3 billion. Income from public transport on rails had just a modest growth of 2.6 per cent, but the contribution from tram and underground increased by more than 10 per cent.

Reduced ticket revenues despite strong passenger growth by boat

For the second quarter in a row, passenger growth is followed by reduced ticket revenues, compared to the corresponding quarters in 2012. This can be explained by lower fares, more use of monthly passes or a change towards shorter journeys by boat.

3.7 per cent passenger growth in 2013

The preliminary figures for 2013 show a growth of about 20 million passengers, or 3.7 per cent, compared to 2012. The increase was strongest for boat; 5.4 per cent, while bus transport still has more than half of the "new" passengers, despite falling market shares.
