Steady passenger growth
A total of 130 million passengers in the third quarter of 2014 gave a growth of 3.8 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2013. This growth was despite a 1.3 million (1.3 per cent) reduction in driven kilometres.

2014 showed a direct continuation of many years of stable passenger growth in the third quarter. Other than a slight “bump” in 2008, the development has been more or less continuous since 2006. Use of public transport has increased by 21.6 per cent over the last 5 years, while the increase in offered kilometres was just 5.5 per cent.
More train passengers
Despite a decrease of 244 000 train kilometres (a reduction of 2.6 per cent) from the third quarter of 2013 to the corresponding period in 2014, 1.2 million more passengers travelled by train. Tram, underground and light rail produced 6.4 more train kilometres, but passenger growth was just 2.2 per cent.
Surprisingly weak boat figures
Weather and wind are often used as explanations when boat figures differ from one period to another. Good weather, such as experienced this summer, normally means a high number of passengers. The 3.8 per cent drop in passengers in the third quarter of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013 was, therefore, somewhat surprising. The number of passengers fell by 113 000, and ticket revenues also saw a minor reduction.
Increased ticket revenues
Ticket revenues increased overall by 8.2 per cent; a clearly stronger growth than passenger growth, and totalled NOK 2.9 billion in the third quarter of 2014. The 12.8 per cent growth by rail was the strongest growth of them all.
